Privacy Policy

Last updated October 12, 2026

This policy explains what Cognitive AI collects when you use Daniel and our website, why, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to do the work you ask for.

Who we are

Cognitive AI ("we", "us") operates Daniel, the website at cognitivedaniel.com, and the related apps. We are based in Dallas, Texas. Questions about privacy go to hello@cognitivedaniel.com.

What we collect

  • Account details. When you sign in with GitHub or Google, or create an account with email, we receive your name, email address, username and profile picture. Email passwords are stored only as a salted hash.
  • Access to your repositories. Signing in with GitHub gives Daniel a token to read the repositories you choose and to open branches and pull requests there. The token is encrypted and used only to do work you request.
  • The work you give Daniel. Your instructions, the code Daniel reads, the changes it writes, test results and mission history, so you can follow and resume the work.
  • Billing. Payments are handled by Stripe. We receive your plan, payment status and a customer reference. We never see or store full card numbers.
  • Integrations you connect. If you connect tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Jira or Linear, we store what is needed to send updates or read the tickets you point Daniel at.
  • Support. Messages you send through the support chat, problem reports and emails, including the page and mission they relate to.
  • Website and app usage. Our own analytics record pages viewed and product steps such as sign-in or starting a mission, using a random visitor ID. They set no cookies, do not record IP addresses, and turn off when your browser sends Do Not Track. Our marketing pages also load Apollo's website tracker, which helps us understand which companies visit; see Apollo's privacy policy for how it works.

How we use it

  • To run Daniel: reading your code, making and testing changes, and opening pull requests you asked for.
  • To bill you, provide support, and keep the service secure and working.
  • To improve the product using aggregated, non-identifying usage data.
  • To contact you about your account, missions and important changes. We send marketing email only if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe anytime.

We do not sell your personal information.

How your code is handled

Each mission runs in its own temporary, isolated sandbox that is never shared with other customers and is discarded when it is no longer needed. To do the work, the code Daniel reads and your instructions are sent to our AI model provider (currently Anthropic) under commercial terms that do not allow it to train its models on your data. We do not use your code to train AI models. Daniel never merges code; changes reach your repository only as pull requests for your review.

Who we share data with

Only the service providers we need to run Daniel, each bound by their own data-protection terms: our AI model provider, our hosting and sandbox provider (Vercel), our data store, Stripe for payments, Google Workspace for email, and the integrations you choose to connect. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to a successor if Cognitive AI is acquired, under this policy.

How long we keep it

We keep account and mission data while your account is open. Sandboxes are temporary and are discarded when no longer needed. Usage analytics are kept in aggregated form. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except billing records we must keep by law.

Your choices and rights

You can disconnect integrations, revoke Daniel's GitHub access from your GitHub settings at any time, cancel your plan, and ask us to access, correct, export or delete your data by emailing hello@cognitivedaniel.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or California's CCPA; we honor those requests.

Security

Sessions are encrypted, tokens are encrypted at rest, traffic uses HTTPS, and each mission runs in its own sandbox. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you promptly.

Children

Daniel is a professional tool and is not for anyone under 18.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and tell signed-in users before the change takes effect.
